and of course because I like to suffer, I will not allow myself to press continue on this screen until I understand every single word written on it and have written down the new verbs/phrases I've learned :D

well, no matter, gotta write the new verb down :D even though we're soooo far off from learning the futur case lol, I don't think that's even in my A1 book

I can still do the regular table for the irregular verb so I can maybe recognise it in the future (haha)

@follpvosten damn, you can’t change it after you set it?

also it is incredibly silly that i got the gist of all this just from Spanish and English knowledge…

je peux, tu peux, il/elle peut

ok standard stuff as far as irregulars are concerned so far

nous pouvons, vous pouvez

ok still pretty in line

ils/elles peuvent

huh??? :D

@twinkle oh I can change it, I can just edit the save :D but yes, not without modifying the savefile manually lol. I'm not entirely sure why they did it this way, probably some fuckery with nicknames (game freak are notoriously bad programmers)

jouer seems to be a regular -er verb, so far so good. gonna just write that down (not that I need it, I understand it anyway, but I wanna have it in my worddex, ok?)

choisir is an -ir verb, we haven't had those in class yet, so I think I'm gonna do a fully table for that one πŸ€”

great, commencer is an -er verb with an "orthographic special case", thanks lol

well, it only makes sense though - we want to retain the sound value of the "c" even in the -ons case, so we need to change the c to a ç, making commençons instead of commencons which would sound weird.

I will try to write down new words I encounter in the script of the game but I'm guessing I'll sometimes just look them up and try to remember without writing them down

I suspect there's gonna be a lot

but well at least it's not exactly a literary masterpiece lol

@follpvosten thank you for reminding me how silly this language is that I thankfully only had to study for my verbal Abitur exams ablobcatpnd_zyare

@KnittingCatgirl I am still quatre-vingt-dix-neuf percent sure I will enjoy this language at least for the time being :D but I've decided relatively early on that if it ever gets too annoying I'll probably switch to a more sane option like Spanish haha

Ce monde est

so far so good

peuplΓ©

lmfao. but hey because I know exactly what he's saying, I can derive that from English "populated". such a funny sounding word though lmao

de crΓ©atures merveilleuses qu'on appelle PokΓ©mon.

ok that one was easy enough. though my brain still turns off whenever I see qu' followed by something. those could use a good explanation in class for once tbh.

@follpvosten doubt the β€œother gay cousin” of these two will be very different, French is just peak silly in its own way. Or as they would say β€œΓ§a depend.”

@KnittingCatgirl I do suspect that I might actually have an easier time learning French cause my brain absolutely loves weird bullshit like the sixty-ten and subsequent four-twenty fun :D I have more trouble remembering the numbers forty and fifty compared to 60+ because of that

new verb form! nous vivons -> vivre. that's the third regular verb form, which we also haven't technically learned yet. oh boy :D

looks like the conjugation matches the -er verb form almost exactly, only the first person singular is spelled differently. well, and there is no "e" in the singular forms' endings. the example in my book is pretty clear overall.

fun, my French-German online dictionary actually has a separate entry for "vivre en bonne entente", which is exactly what the professor says here :D

駄ε₯³η₯žγ‚·γƒ«γƒ΄γ‚£γƒΌ πŸŒ’πŸŒ•πŸŒ˜ (They/She)

I should probably write down entente cause despite having heard of that years ago in the WW1 context, I have absolutely no idea what it actually means lol.

well, and now that I have looked it up...this seems to be a rather vague concept? I'm really unsure which translation to pick to write down πŸ˜…

@follpvosten There's only 2 regular forms, 1st -er and 2nd -ir with participle in -issant. -re verbs do not have a fully regular pattern.

Also, to answer a few posts up, qu' is just the clitic form of que (relative "that" or subjunctive particle).

@chjara as to the -re verbs - yeah, I noticed now lol.

and yeah...theoretically I think I know what qu'/que means, I just need someone to actually explain that to me with a full example, ideally in class so I can ask questions. thank you though

anyway, on to the more important questions - which fucking skin tone for Mai. as in, regular white or snow white. I can change the hair colour and eye colour later but not that πŸ₯΄

駄ε₯³η₯žγ‚·γƒ«γƒ΄γ‚£γƒΌ πŸŒ’πŸŒ•πŸŒ˜ (They/She)

she has a healthy skin tone in most official anime media as far as I can tell, but in the light novel Renako constantly describes all her friends' skin as "pale" (and that's supposed to be a positive somehow). hmmmmm.

no, regular white it is, I don't want her to look dead. will have to change the eyes and hair later, but oh well πŸ˜…

@follpvosten I am quite sure this is where the English β€œdonation” comes from ^^

(if you learn the irregular past tense of β€œtake” you might learn why we call it a β€œPrise Salz” in German)
