Can anybody recommend a epub reader application for Android with good UI and built-in thesaurus / dictionary? (I like how it's done on my Kobo, long press on a word pops up a thesaurus entry for this word, surely this should be the case for Android apps too?

@IngaLovinde i dont know if the dictionary in this one is good in your definition (it’s really good in my experience, it even has wikipedia integration iirc) but i use KOReader and it’s really good, it just takes configuration just like all OSS apps do. it’s also long press on word to bring up dictionary, there’s several options in the popup for stuff and the dictionary source is also configurable / customisable, and the UI is pretty good, just again, assuming you’re in the mood to configure it; i have it set to my liking and it’s really good (dark mode, monospaced font, large gaps; all styling choices that may or may not be widely available)

@IngaLovinde it also supports PDFs correctly and other formats too iirc, as well as a ton of UX/accessibility features, it really just lacks in a good configuration interface but even then it still tried its best at that, most of the normal configuration options are intuitive

IngaLovinde@embracing.space@twinkle koreader was originally developed as alternative floss software for Kobo devices afaik, and its UI/UX really sucks compared to the one of the stock software :(
(I've had it for a while as my second-hand Kobo device came with it originally, before giving up and moving to stock firmware)

@twinkle I installed it and... still sucks.
E.g. it is quite difficult to find in the menu where exactly are the dictionaries configured, because there is no single settings menu but everything is spread across like five separate context menus. Also only some of these are available from the main screen, and in order to configure dictionaries you have to open a book first. Also for English there are 46 pages/screens of dictionaries (all kind of limited thesauruses and all kinds, including limited, of dictionaries between English and other languages), in semi-random order, with no search or sort function.
Also it's clearly designed for e-ink screens; e.g. in a couple of places touch swiping works as expected, but I'm all the other places it throws you out all the way back to home screen because obviously instead of trying to scroll that list in menu you should have used "next" and "previous" buttons. Or, downloading dictionaries is a blocking operation with no progress display, you just hope that is actually downloading and wait, not touching the phone, until it says "dictionary downloaded" (which can take minutes or more on slow connections with zero visual feedback, just blocked UI, in the meantime).
Also half the time the bottom menu is under Android navigation bar and it takes luck to get the menu displayed but Android navigation bar hidden, in order to interact with that bottom bar.
And that's just a very small part of what I encountered in the first few minutes...
