so they're killing x86 support for Minecraft (rip Windows XP)

in exchange of uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

??????????????????

like generational Shenandoah and AOT tools are: neatneat, but I don't see how any of that is required for Minecraft

....why is Temurin so bad at ARM64 Windows builds

like they do them *eventually*, but it takes them... a lot

> Once again, Temurin jdk-25.0.2 for the Windows on Aarch64 platform is currently unavailable. We expect that fixes to the issues will be rectified upstream and we will plan to include this platform as part of our the April 2026 release period.

this isn't the worstestest website https://whichjdk.com/

so, only Azul Zulu, Bellsoft Liberica and (ugh) Microsoft OpenJDK provide ARM64 Windows support for Java 25 right now

I do not like any of these at a first glance

apparently, to get Zulu's source code you have to.... email them

they claim this in order to truly comply with the GPL, unlike those people not complying by uploading to GIt providers (like the FSF and GNU I guess, such bad GPL licensers)

are you stupid or are you stupid

Bellsoft is MUCH BETTER in that regard, the source code is right there on the downloads page

https://bell-sw.com/pages/downloads/

so I guess that's what I'm going with

> The SOFTWARE shall not be supplied in any way, directly or indirectly, to an entity/person in North Korea, Syria, Russia, Belarus, Iran, Sudan, or the Crimea Region of Ukraine.

uh

what

so I can't share it with friends in Russia because

...I mean I guess this is US law, which I can gladly ignore, but

?????????????????

@xerz i have a feeling that this is just some CI/CD bullshit because the official launcher now downloads and runs official java builds and they’re just pushing the imaginary button that says β€œupdate that shit”

that's uh

Microsoft OpenJDK

why

@efi I unironically think it might be launching its own executable and then using the system JDK stdlib LMAO

it booted up just fine on Liberica JDK 25 this time

yay blobCatBlushOwo

I'm never closing this game ever again

not exactly the bestestest performance out of the box (JDK defaults, shitty Adreno GPU)

1

just by doing nothing, performance oscillated between 15 and 117 FPS

weird

> Also try Super Meat Boy

okay that IS old

1

okay, gonna try generational ZGC and Shenandoah now

afaik they don't need any parameter tuning in particular anymore, all defaults should be okay

1

ZGC reduced stuttering ever-so-slightly, but isn't such a massive quality of life improvement

Generational Shenandoah, meanwhile, is... weird. Lower FPS bound improved (15-18 => 29, 33 => 34), but average FPS lowered a bit (55 => 54). Sounds like it can be a better choice, but weird behavior

...it's,

not booting up

neither getting killed

huh

1

oh okay, it just needed like, 5 minutes to start

once it does tho, no noticeable performance hit

1

closed the game, it's now generating the AOT cache

1

generated, weights 171MB, which is: reasonable

time to: bench of the mark blobCatEyes

average FPS increased! by 1FPS! waow surprisedPikachu

loads much faster, but performance isn't really noticeable

1

considering how much maintenance AOT takes, I'd say it's not worth it

like, at all

just enable Shenandoah or ZGC if you feel like it, but that's about it

btw I'm: pretty sure my system is locking rendering to 60FPS, to match my screen

huh

1

anyway with a few mods (Sodium, Lithium, BetterRenderDistance, FerriteCore, ImmediatelyFast, ScalableLux, Entity Culling, Particle Core, that sort of stuffs) I now rarely drop from 60FPS

meanwhile, on my desktop PC:

vanilla Minecraft on G1 Java 25, on the other handpawthingie, seems to cap at 250FPS

can't really tell a difference between any garbage collector on here

they all just go: really damn fast blobCatBlushOwo

P.S.: left VSync enabled on my laptop by accident: oops

on fullscreen without mods, very unstable 55-113 FPS (usually on the 60s-70s range) on G1, very unstable 56-112 FPS on Shenandoah, very unstable 53-107 FPS on Shenandoah+AOT, pretty unstable 55-110 FPS (usually at 108) on ZGC

on fullscreen with mods, stable 105-108 FPS on G1, stable 115 FPS on Shenandoah, slightly unstable 122 FPS on ZGC

............huh
