Honestly SNCF has got to be one of the most malicious anti-consumer greedy train operators that I know of
@rail how does it compare to renfe
renfe cercanías: half an hour delay? nono it was actually only 29 minutes and 30 seconds so no compensation. also fuck you if you want to cross the underground Sol train station that’s embedded halfway between two sides of one metro station instead of taking a stroll up to the city and then down again just to get to the other side of the metro station because there’s no other underground hallway. also fuck you we have different cards for different provinces despite being both visually identical and digitally distinguishable at the kiosk, where they can fucking tell you “Nono your card is from Madrid this is Valencia go the FUCK to the help desk instead Fuck you”
@twinkle @rail you get compensation at 30 minutes delay? Nice. By EU laws there is only compensation from 60 minutes delay (25% of ticket price; 50% if delay is over 120 minutes).
One of the ways how SNCF is anti-consumer is that their KPIs are the average occupancy of trains (the higher the better) and the percentage of trains running at 100% occupancy (the higher the better) so they literally cut even popular services in order to ensure 100% occupancy (and no free seats) on the remaining ones.
And also interrail supplement as mentioned in the original thread, except you cannot even pay interrail supplement if there are no free seats.
Although Spain and Italy have these supplements too.
@IngaLovinde @rail I forgot if it’s 30 or 60 that part is provided by a friend lol
And, ah yeah that fucking sucks.
(also I’m not aware of this original thread ^^”)
@rail @IngaLovinde Yes, I’ve already checked the original post on the instance.
@twinkle @IngaLovinde you need to open it from your instance, paste it into search
I specifically disabled web view on my instance recently, sorry about the confusion
@rail @IngaLovinde Akkoma doesn’t support “paste a link to a remote post” in the search bar, or if it does it’s never worked.
@rail @IngaLovinde Akkoma has a lot of federation issues in general when it comes to fetching posts, but I don’t like Mastodon UI and I despise Misskey UI… and most masto instances aren’t equipped with akkoma-fe. Average day in fedi software :(
Today's vent is sponsored by Passzuschlag supplement being required
I think they are the only operator that requires this ancient bs and it's such an obvious "fuck you" aimed at Interrail passengers who dare to want to take these trains at a reasonable price
@rail not the only one? Afaik both trenitalia and renfe (and maybe CP as well) do it too?
And even ÖBB on routes crossing into Italy, although that's probably caused by trenitalia too.
@IngaLovinde true i went a bit ahead of myself with that one
tho to be fair renfe kinda learned their worst practices and the entire shitfuck HSR model from SNCF soooo
@rail but they are building HSR that doesn't go to Madrid! (Barcelona - Valencia - Alicante - Almeria).
And they do have decent services through Madrid now (without all that "take several subway trains to change between different stations in Paris" bullshit).
Also difficult to not follow France's example at first at least when you're planning to do HSR in standard gauge whole you're entire existing railway system is not in standard gauge.
