Is there a sort of international internet etiquette for replying to someone who posted in a language you don’t speak but you machine translated? Sometimes I see people begin with “please excuse any errors in comprehension, I read your post with machine translation”

@aisling what i’ve seen in Chinese->English text is that it is assumed that if you have spotty grammar you’re using machine translation and the usual desired etiquette is “speak in your native tongue” but most people end up providing both the source and a machine translated copy anyway because anglophones gotta be anglophones
