@eviloatmeal watching a Spanish show with english and spanish subtitles side by side because duolingo is a scam and language schools are racist and also not free

idk when i was in taiwan everyone’s just like “ohhh ur from taiwan that’s so cool you’re like so unique ive never met anyone else from taiwan before” and now that i’m in spain it’s just “ohh ur from taiwan…” but now also with “ohh u moved to spain. why did u move to spain?” and im fucking tired of being seen like this. god forbid im seen just as an avg fucking person.

@twinkle Valid! I'm so bummed about Duolingo going from "the criticisms of the methodology are valid, but it's still a very useful tool, as long as you understand that it's not a complete package for language learning", to "we're firing everybody and replacing the whole thing with AI slop".

Watching a show and making up your own study sounds like a challenge for motivation!

@eviloatmeal it’s a challenge of my motivation and it’s running in the negatives. ive not really felt like anyone actually wants me to learn this language, it’s almost as if literally no one cares about this language outside of needing to speak it. i have literally never had anyone infodump to me about any “spanish fun facts” because apparently no one hates it enough and no one loves it enough either. the most ive heard is just the “neuter” form debate.

and i’m just fucking tired because i know the One Thing i’m lacking is just “actually being persistent and consistent about doing it” and that’s the problem ive been trying to tackle this entire time because setting a reminder doesn’t work for the ADHD, ive asked people to remind me to do it but like all of my friends have ADHD too so what gives. i know the reason i’m not able to work on it and it fucking stings, and i cant just cut all my ties and throw myself into a spanish group like i did with english originally. i’m tired of knowing the problem and the solution and still being unable to solve it
