99% of smart home crap just feels like

why is it connected to the internet? so it can get updates
why does it need updates? because it’s connected to the internet

@eri i think it’s cool conceptually that you can do bullshit with your appliances and stuff but like the lights in my place barely even function properly so like i feel like there’s a certain dissonance here in terms of, Privilege

@eri i once read an article about affordable roombas or whatever it’s called and i was like, like okay i was interested in the tech behind all that but the last good invention for house cleaning is the fucking vacuum and i have a 20 dollars portable one. shit ain’t ever gonna beat that. there’s also the broom.

@twinkle @eri there are some plugs in my house for which having a smart plug was literally a lifechanger, still I would like something that I know how it’s built, privacy centered, et al.
