what are the most hated and controversial linux distros so I know what to use

@winter the first thing that comes to mind is manjaro, but the reason why it's controversial and hated is because it legitimately sucks

it's a meme at this point they can't keep the SSL on their website updated, to the point where it happened *again* last month

and they have frequently broken people's installs outright

a lot of the "systemd-free distros" have fucked vibes to me too (not just distros that don't have systemd, but ones which have that as the selling point)

sure there's lots of legitimate complaints to have about it, but some people take it on religiously, as if systemd is short for system daemon.... wait a second

fun fact manjaro is the distro besides gentoo i was able to find that supports the every lts kernel version in their official repo. i was trying to figure this out bc i have niche hardware with a kernel module that often breaks with a kernel version bump, so i need a kernel that will last a while without updates besides security patches, plus the ability to downgrade to an older lts. i wound up going with gentoo but manjaro is a weirdly specific distro to be the only other viable option i could find

There's probably tons of "fake" distros with keyloggers everywhere, but I guess the generic nerd answer would be "try Ubuntu or Manjaro"
